Carbon Emission Reduction
According to the USAID Green House Gas (GHS) emission factsheet 2012, Uganda emits about 49million metric
tons of greenhouse gases annually. Of this, 38% is as a result of land use change and forestry emission. Consequently,
projections have been stimulated to reduce this emission by 22% come 2030. The question remains as to how feasible this
would be given the 2% annual rate of increase in the carbon emission. In fact, Uganda’s greenhouse gas emissions grew 50
percent from 1990 - 2012 with an average annual change of 2 percent. In this line therefore, UNIVOC’S emphasis on
reduction of carbon emission can never be underscored.
